We have found a great husband/wife team to come up and map for us late this summer. Bill Cusworth is a skilled orienteer from Seattle and he and his wife are starting an o-mapping business. We have contracted with him to come map for us for 3 weeks from August 19 to Sept 8 this summer. We are looking for people that will volunteer to provide housing for the two of them a week at a time. If someone has space for the 3 weeks that would be great but last year we found that asking for a week at a time we got far more response. So how about it? Have a bit of space to share with some really nice orienteers, or know of somebody that does? If so email Kimball Forrest with your preferred time slot and we will see if we can save the club a bunch of money on housing.
Speaking of saving money, right now the cheapest rental car we can find for 3 weeks is nearly $1,500. So if you have a spare vehicle, then there is another opportunity to help us save some bucks! Please let Kimball know. Thanks!

If you plan to attend and you haven't already sent us that info for an event at Ft Rich or Elmendorf this year, please email it to Chris Tomsen (a club board member and our "sponsor" with the military) on or before noon, July 17, 2011. Apologies, again, for the short notice. Also, you need to bring your blue visitor's pass (USARTRAK pass) with you on the day of the meet. USARTRAK/blue visitor's passes are required for this meet for ages 16+. Passes are available at the Fort Richardson gate (they say 24/7, but for better odds, go 9-5 M-F). If you are on the club's "guest list" for this meet, show your USARTRAK pass to the guard at the gate (no need to check in at the guard house). If you are on the list but don't have a pass and plan to get it the day of the meet, please allow time for processing at the gate. If you are not on the list, you will need to find someone in the military to sponsor you, try checking in to USARTRAK areas 411 or 412 via phone, or contact Chelsea at 218-349-0229. Lastly, as usual, current vehicle registration, insurance, and ID are also required. From Glenn Hwy entrance to Ft. Richardson, follow main road. Turn right at the first light. Turn right onto Davis Hwy. Shortly after an opened fence across the road, turn left onto Poleline Road. Follow Poleline Road approximately 3 miles. You can also follow controls to the start. If you attended the Elmendorf meet, you do not need to send Chris this information (you're already on the "guest" list) but if you will NOT be attending the Fossil Creek meet, please let Chris know and he'll take you off the list (security procedures change depending on the number of people on the list).
Last note: USARTRAK passes are required for this meet. Passes are available at the Fort Richardson gate (they say 24/7, but for better odds, go 9-5 M-F). If you are on the "guest list," you do not have to call in individually - just have the pass with you. If you don't have a pass and plan to get it the day of the meet, please allow time for processing at the gate.
USARTRAK
Lastly, as usual, current vehicle registration and current insurance are also required.
Fossil Creek meets are on areas 411 and 412.
Pia's meets are in
area 429, in the southwest corner of the Ft Rich training area.
Here is a map with marker at end of Klutina; start is 5 min walk to east from that point.

Many of our experienced meet directors could use a little help with their meets. Learn the ropes of putting on a meet, while you will assist an experienced meet director. Take a look at our 2011 schedule to figure out which meets you are available for. Then send an email to Karen Bronga with the subject "Assistant Volunteer" and include the dates that will work for you. New Meet Directors: Are you already a Meet Director and would like a `Mentor'? Maybe you are putting on a meet this summer or you'd still like to sign up for one (two meets have no director), and would like some guidance from a veteran meet director. Great! The `guidance' could be as simple as reviewing your course maps via email, helping out with map design and OCAD, or much more in-depth if you prefer. If you would like a mentor, send an email to Cory Smith with the subject "Mentor Request" and include the date of your meet and what aspects of the meet you would like the most help with.
Experienced Meet Directors:
Want an extra hand or two with your meet? If you would like to have a meet
assistant and are willing to offer a little instruction along the way, then send
me an email with the subject "Assistant Request" and include the date of your
meet.
Are you willing to mentor someone else's meet? Maybe there is a week you know
you won't be able to run? You could help that meet director (via phone, email,
or in person) by reviewing maps, field-checking, or providing whatever advice
you can offer. Even if you are planning to participate in the meet, there may
be ways to help, such as offering OCAD support. Send an email to
Cory Smith with the subject "Mentor Volunteer" and include the meet
dates that you are available to help with. I will attempt to assign you to help
with one of those meets.
