ORIENTEERING RESULTS FOR WEIRD-O EVENT OF 
TUESDAY, JUNE 9
Russian Jack Park, Anchorage, Alaska

From 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 186 participants making 86 teams of individuals or groups 
signed up for the short or long course. Fifty-one teams ran the short course, and 35 teams 
ran the long course. Both courses featured the "human pinata" (where contestants had to 
strike Stefan Otterson with a nerf bat while he dangled and writhed from a line between 
two trees), run a maze laid out with flagging tape, and catch a cow running through the 
underbrush with the control. Other controls had riddles or questions, where one could 
shave or loose time, depending on how one answered. Most people had fun and laughed 
as they completed the run. A few got temporarily lost, as we can tell from the times 
below. Jen Joliff and Ian Moore won the long course in 49:00, and Nancy Brusseau and 
Jacob Purrington won the short course in 21:15. Both teams got 10 minutes subtracted 
from their actual run times because they answered riddles correctly.

Correct answers for riddles and questions were: The letter and golf start is "T" or tee; the 
word beginning and ending in "e" and containing a letter is envelope, but we accepted 
epistle, eye and ewe. The tree was a cottonwood or poplar. The long course also had the 
number 24 or 4, and the homonym was bolder boulder. Special thanks goes to helpers
