ANCHORAGE PARKS TOUR 1999

Overcast skies proved to be ideal running conditions for the Anchorage Parks Tour on June 26. Competitors began, as previous years, on the Pia-Margarethe Map. Paul Denkewalter again honored the memory of his daughter Pia-Margarethe by competing. Thirteen individuals and twelve teams orienteered. In all almost fifty people enjoyed one or more of the four maps offered.

In both the solo and team competitions only 200-points spread separated 1st and 3rd places. Bryan Carey and Ted Cahalane finished victoriously with a 110-point lead over the Follett Team's second place. Steve Gruhn edged out Jim Green by 70 points in the solo division. Kudos goes to Marianne Pedersen, our only solo woman. Her valiant efforts won her first dibs on the prize table.

The top three solo finishers received framed Bicentennial maps; the top three teams restaurant gift certificates. Many others won drawing prizes generously donated by AMH, Skinny Raven Sports, The Sports Shop, Tom Soucek Photography, Great Harvest Bread Company and Williwaw Publishing.
