!! GUNNAR'S POKER ORIENTEERING
!!
Campbell Creek Science
Center
Saturday, September 14, 2002
Meet at Campbell Creek
Science Center at 3:00 p.m.
There will be a mass start
for all races at EXACTLY 3:40.
Short Poker-O (45 minutes)
Long Poker-O (1 hour 15 minutes)
Standard White course (start anytime)
How Poker-O Works: There are no control
cards. The back of your map will serve
as a control card. Punch the box by the
appropriate number. It doesn’t have to
fit exactly There will be approximately 30 controls. Each control station will have a playing card stapled to it. If you punch the space on the back of your
map for a control station, you have added that card to your poker hand.
You may punch only five stations!!!--so that you end up with a five-card poker
hand. The object of this event is to
get the highest possible five-card poker hand (the ranking of poker hands is
shown on the back of your map). You may visit as many stations as you wish, and
return later to punch those stations which you choose to. For example, if the first station you reach
is the three of clubs, you are probably best off not punching it. On the other hand, if you have only punched
three stations so far, and you have only a few minutes left, and you come to
the Ace of Diamonds, and you already have the three other aces, then you are
probably well advised to punch it.
The playing cards stapled to
each station will be randomly chosen from
a shuffled deck. There is not
necessarily any correlation between where a station is and the value of the
card. It is possible--if unlikely--that
the highest possible poker hand is the five stations closest to the Science
Center. NO WRITING IMPLEMENTS!!! You
may not carry any kind of pencil or pen to write down what the cards are at each
station!

Pick-Up Orienteering.

after the finish of the Long Poker Orienteering Race there will be a Pick-Up
Orienteering Race. The rules for
Pick-Up Orienteering are very simple.
There is a mass start. You have
exactly twenty minutes. Whoever returns
with the most controls wins.

Annual Meeting will be held In the Science Center at 5:30 p.m. following
the Pick-Up Orienteering Race.
