Arctic Orienteering Club -- May 26, 2004 meet details

---------- Bill's Orienteering -----------

Bill's-O will be held Wednesday, May 26 on the Kincaid Park map. The registration/start/finish area will be near the Chalet.

EVENTS:

There will be three events: a STRING-O for the young-'uns, a standard WHITE COURSE for newcomers, independant youth and families, and a 2-PERSON RELAY SCORE-O. (We may also offer an individual one hour score "O" for those who don't want to do the relay, but I am trying to discourage it: relays are more fun, but some may not have the time.)

Relay will be 2-person teams with each member doing 4 legs. The length of the legs will vary with each person running legs of 10, 15, 20 and 10 minutes. Total time for each will be 55 minutes, total time for both, 1:50 minutes. Bring a watch!

As most of the map is a vegetation disaster, most of the controls will be white to easy orange in difficulty, generally close to the trails (Isn't everything close to the trails in Kincaid).

START TIMES:

If you are doing the string-O or the White course, start anytime between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
The relay and score "O" will have a mass start at 6:00 pm.

SIGN IN AND SIGN OUT

All participants must sign in, pay the daily or season pass fee and have signed the liability waiver for this season. Be sure to write legibly so we can get your name correct in the results. Use your real first and last name or the newspaper won’t include you in the results. DO NOT LEVE WITHOUT SIGNING OUT either by turning in your control card to a race official, or by checking yourself off on the registration list.

TERRAIN:

Kincaid is hilly, with many wide dirt ski trails. Vegetation ranges from some open forest to more open forest interspersed with deadfall, underbrush, tangled thickets and devil's club.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Get on Rasberry Rd from Minnisota, Jewel Lake or Sand Lake roads and stay on it, well into Kinkaid Park, until you reach the Chalet and two large parking areas at the end of the road.
